Einen lesenswerten Artikel über Mobile Payment habe ich gerade in der TechNewsWorld gefunden „Swiping Your Credit Card Is So Yesterday“. Unbedingt lesen!
What ultimately may drive acceptance of contactless technology with users, and ultimately merchants, is its integration with mobile phones. Several pilots have been conducted, including one that Atlanta Spirit , the company that operates Atlanta’s Philips Arena, completed with AT&T, Nokia, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Visa last year at the arena. Atlanta Spirit, which is also the parent of the Hawks basketball team and the Thrashers hockey team, is laying the groundwork for another test later this year, says David Lee, vice president of business development. „While contactless is great in terms of ease of use, we think there’s a greater proposition by way of the mobile device,“ he says.[…]
Contactless technology also ties into bank and merchant loyalty programs. Visa, for example, works with merchants to provide information on Visa cardholders who, based on card activity, might be potential customers. Those candidates can receive a promotion or digital coupon via phone as bar-code images that can be scanned at the point of sale (POS), Zuercher says. For such a system to work, the phone must have sufficient screen resolution to allow a scan, and the merchant must have a bar code reader. „It’s important to match the coupon type to the consumer handset and to the merchant environment,“ Zuercher says.[…]
In the past, mobile operators and payment associations wrestled over who controlled the real estate where the application resided, says Ken Warren, smart card business manager at Cryptography Research, a developer of mobile security intellectual property in San Francisco. That has changed. The trend is toward integrating the applications into the phone but allowing banks to manage that piece. „A lot of telecom operators realize that they don’t want to be banks and are happy to let the banks keep control of that side of things,“ Warren says.
