Hi it’s James from mjelly here at Mobile Zeitgeist for another mobile 2.0 service of the week.  After looking at Cologne-based mjoy last time, we continue the German theme with a look at the new German-focused service from the mobile dating site Flirtomatic.  We have got some exclusive, never-seen-before stats from Mark Curtis the CEO of Flirtomatic just for Mobile Zeitgeist readers plus all the screenshots are auf Deutsche :-)

flirtomatic

What is it?

Flirtomatic is a mobile dating site that started in the UK and has built both an amazing user base AND a viable business model.  The key stats are pretty impressive:

  • 1m users registered on the platform
  • average user logs in 7 times per day
  • 25 m messages a month sent
  • 100m mobile internet page impressions a month
  • REVENUES QUADRUPLED OVER THE PAST YEAR

Flirtomatic is now expanding internationally – including to Germany with a dedicated site over at flirtomatic.de.  The German site was launched earlier this year with a dedicated front-end although German users can also browse the profiles of US and UK users.

Something flirtomatic does very well is user-experience – they put “calls to action” everywhere on the site to encourage users to engage.  This has been translated into the German version with links everywhere encouraging you to “Ein Flirtogramm verschicken” or “Finde einen Flirtpartner”.

How are things going in Germany?

So Mark Curtis the CEO was good enough to share how the service is doing with Mobile Zeitgeist.  According to Mark, usage is starting to take off in Germany now that the service is established:
“Growth month on month is looking good from a slow start (but so was the UK). March users are up by 28%. Messages sent on the service are up by 86″
Also 13% of total traffic is coming from the iphone, even though Flirtomatic.de isn’t available in a specific iphone version yet – although this is coming soon.  The other interesting fact is that Flirtomatic.de is delivering relatively stronger performance in terms of ad revenues than the UK.
With German services like itsmy.com expanding into the UK, it’s great to see UK mobile sites moving into Germany and succeeding – if the European mobile market is to continue to compete with the US and Asia we need more examples like this.
