Moblog UK und channel4 starten eine gemeinsame Moblogging Community, bei der Nutzer öffentliche Kunst mit ihren Handys “einfangen” und direkt vom Mobiltelefon bloggen. Die Aktion soll in das TV-Programm von channel4 eingebettet werden.

The Big Art Mob will be the mobile aspect of the show - to be aired in April 2008 - which will invite people to send photos and video of public art from their mobile phones to the online community which is a white-labelled version of moblogUK itself. The license is the first of its kind to be isssued by “moblogUK Technology”, the licensing arm of moblogUK. Other significant deals are known to be in discussion as part of an expansion of moblogUK’s activity.

The product behind the system is called the “Participation Toolkit” and, according to moblogUK’s Alfie Dennan, it allows the creation of a social network based on the cameraphone.

Dennen says “What is novel is that what Channel 4 are creating a massive social community around a TV show which won’t air for a year, creating a community of people engaged around the idea of public art at a grass roots level.”
